Pioneer Park Racecourse

The Alice Springs Turf Club races 30+ times a year at its Ladbrokes Pioneer Park Racecourse.

The Alice Springs Turf Club, just 7km from the Alice Springs CBD, Australia's most centrally situated Thoroughbred Racing club.

The Turf Club's signature 'event' is the annual Ladbrokes Alice Springs Cup Carnival. Race days during the Carnival are Mercure Alice Springs Resort Ladies Day, Coca-Cola Family Day, Harvey Norman Young Guns Day, Holdfast Insurance Brokers Pioneer Sprint Day (which hosts the $100,000 Holdfast Insurance Brokers Pioneer Sprint) on the Saturday of the May Day long weekend, and the culmination of the Carnival is Ladbrokes Alice Springs Cup Day which is always held on the public holiday of May Day Monday (first Monday every May).

The Alice Springs Turf Club recognises the foundation of racing established by our forefathers. It is through the influence of these people that "The Sport of (the Cattle) Kings"in Central Australia evolved.

The first racetrack in the Alice was on the Emily plain on the East Side of town near where the Federal sports club was later established. In 1878 racing shifted to the Claypan site, west of MacDonnell siding. A track also existed in the heart of town, near where the police station now stands.

Racing moved to Pioneer Park on the South Stuart Highway in 1977, following the closure of the Mount Nancy Racecourse, which was on the North side of town, approximately where Head Street is now situated.
