In 2018 a storm destroyed the balloon while it was tethered to the ground. The decision had been made not to fly the SkyShip at all on the day, due to severe weather across the entire Lasseter district. The balloon was moored, and nothing more could have been done to prevent the effects of the storm.
No date has been set for a new balloon.

Uluru blimp flies into court
This article is from the June 15, 2019 issue of The Age Digital Edition
For the 300,000 people who visit Uluru each year, the 2009 plan to stop tourists climbing the rock was the beginning of the end.
But for some businessmen, the ban presented an opportunity that just months after its liftoff has instead landed in the NSW Supreme Court.
The group dreamt up SkyShip Uluru - a giant blimp that would allow visitors to again enjoy stunning panoramic views as it hovered 150 metres in the air.
It took seven years, millions of dollars and a two-month sea and rail journey from Europe to get the blimp off the ground.
SkyShip's first flight was in August last year, but by October its remains were lying in tatters on the red dirt. A violent storm rolled through the area, bringing 69km/h wind gusts. The SkyShip was destroyed.
The SkyShip contract was terminated in February by Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia, an organisation owned by the Indigenous Land Corporation that manages the tourism and resort facilities at Uluru.
Skyship has challenged the termination, with its counsel Gregory Sirtes, SC, saying his clients should not lose their contract for discontinuing the business after what was essentially "an act of God'' .
It also wants to repossess its former site.
